| What are art rubber stamps and what is rubber stamping? |
| |
|
Rubber stamps come in several flavors, business rubber stamps (for return addresses, labels,
dates, etc) music chord stamps (for diagramming chords) and art rubber stamps for making art.
Rubber stamp art can be made with paper cards, envelopes, scrapbooks, journals and similar media.
Rubber stamping is an art form. As a painter uses brushes and paints, a rubber stamp artist uses
art rubber stamps, ink, embellishments and other items for their chosen media. These tools are their
means for creative expression.

| Getting the most from your Metal Stamp Set |
|
|
Care and maintenance:
|
As mentioned in the product description, the stamps that come in the
Metal Stamp Set are made from industrial grade high carbon steel.
This means you can get thousands of impressions from them before
they begin to wear out. This also means they are subject to rust
and therefore they come with a light coating of machine oil to protect
them from moisture.
You can wipe away any excess machine oil with a dry cloth.
You'll want to avoid washing them with soap and water since that could make them vulnerable to rust.

Tips:
|
You'll always want the object you are stamping to be on a hard, sturdy surface.
I use a 12”x12” Corian cutting board. Practice using a hammer and experiment
with how hard or soft you strike the end of the stamp to get a good impression.
Depending on the surface it can take several hard strikes to make the desired impression.
Using metal stamps is very different from using rubber stamps so remember, practice makes perfect.
You don't want to ruin any good material, like the eyelet charms that come with the set, so do
your homework on scrap material and then do your masterpiece on the good stuff! We’ve used lids
from cat food cans, lids from fruit jars, etc. to use for our own practice sessions.
When you want to write a phrase or name you'll want to use a visual guide so everything comes
out straight (assuming you want it to look straight). You can use ordinary scotch tape as a
straight edge. Just apply a line of scotch tape so the edge of it gives you a visual straight
line just below (or right at) where you want to stamp your letters. Once you have finished your
stamping, simply remove the tape and you're done!
